About El Beddawi Municipality
Al-Beddawi (or Beddaoui) is a town on the Mediterranean Sea in the Tripoli District of the North Lebanon Governorate. The town is located about 5 km north of Tripoli, 89 km from Beirut, and at an elevation of 10m above sea level. It covers an area of nearly 552 hectares.
Al-Beddawi is still the main link between Lebanon’s northernmost coast and the rest of the country because the main coastal highway runs through the town.
Al-Beddawi’s municipality was established in 1978 by decision 53; the Municipality is subject to decree No. 5595/82 and is comprised of 18 members and is currently chaired by Mr. Hassan Ghamrawi. The town has also six representatives known as mokhtars. The Municipal Palace was built in 2014
Al-Beddawi joined the Al Fayhaa Union of Municipalities in 1982. The Union is comprised of the municipalities of Tripoli, El-Mina, Al-Beddawi and Qalamoun. Al-Beddawi was transferred from the Tripoli district to the Minieh-Dinnieh district following the 1960 parliamentary elections. In 2017 the Lebanese Parliament approved a proposed law to return Al-Beddawi to the Tripoli district.
